GRP Fibreglass Flat Roof Installation in Leicestershire

GRP fibreglass roofing is widely regarded as the most durable flat roofing system available today - a single, seamless, joint-free waterproof membrane with a life expectancy of 30 to 50 years.

GRP Fibreglass Flat Roofing in Leicestershire

GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) fibreglass roofing is the gold standard for flat roofs. A single, seamless layer of fibreglass is laid across the entire roof surface, creating a completely joint-free waterproof membrane that will not crack, split, or leak. With a life expectancy of 30 to 50 years and a 25-year manufacturer warranty, GRP offers unbeatable long-term value and peace of mind.

At Sykes Roofing, we have installed GRP fibreglass roofs across Leicester, Oadby, Wigston, Blaby, Loughborough, Hinckley, and throughout Leicestershire. Whether you need a flat roof for a new extension, a garage, a dormer, or a commercial building, GRP provides a premium, maintenance-free solution.

The GRP System Explained

A GRP fibreglass roof is built up in layers to create a single, seamless surface. We begin by stripping the existing roof and inspecting the deck. We then install a new OSB3 timber deck if required, ensuring a solid, clean substrate. Next, we apply a resin base coat, lay the glass fibre matting into the wet resin, and apply a second resin coat to fully saturate the matting. Once cured, the surface is sanded smooth and a UV-resistant topcoat is applied in your choice of colour.

The result is a single, continuous, seamless membrane with no joints, no seams, and no weak points. Water cannot penetrate it, UV cannot degrade it, and temperature changes cannot crack it. The finished roof is strong enough to walk on and can be fitted with non-slip surfaces for roof terraces and balconies.

Benefits of GRP Fibreglass

The key advantage of GRP is its seamless construction. Traditional flat roofing systems - such as felt - have joints and seams that are vulnerable to water ingress. GRP has none. The entire roof surface is a single piece of fibreglass, moulded to fit the exact shape of your roof, including upstands, edges, and penetrations.

GRP is also incredibly durable. It will not tear, split, or puncture, and it is resistant to UV, frost, and extreme temperatures. It requires virtually no maintenance - an occasional wash-down is all that is needed. And because it is fully bonded to the deck, there is no risk of wind lift or delamination. GRP roofs are also available in a range of colours, including grey, green, blue, and brown, to complement your property.

The Installation Process

Every GRP roof project begins with a free roof survey. We assess the existing roof structure, take measurements, and discuss your requirements. Within 48 hours, you receive a detailed written quotation. GRP installation is weather-dependent - the resin must be applied in dry conditions - so we schedule work during suitable weather windows.

On the first day, we strip the old roof and install the new OSB3 deck. We then apply the resin and fibreglass layers, curing each section before moving on. Edge trims are fitted in matching colours, and the topcoat is applied to the entire surface. Most residential GRP roofs are completed in 2 to 3 days. On completion, we clean the site and provide your written 10+ year workmanship guarantee plus the 25-year manufacturer warranty.

GRP vs Other Flat Roof Systems

While GRP is our recommended flat roof system, we understand it may not suit every budget. EPDM rubber roofing is also excellent, offering superior flexibility and a similar life expectancy at a slightly lower cost. High-performance felt is the most affordable option, with a life expectancy of 15 to 25 years. We install all three systems and will recommend the most suitable option based on your roof structure, budget, and intended use.

For roofs that will be used as terraces or balconies, GRP is our top recommendation due to its exceptional strength and impact resistance. We can add a non-slip surface or install decking, porcelain paving, or rubber crumb over the GRP membrane to create a beautiful, usable outdoor space.
